Scott A. Elster
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Elster has over 20 years of experience in the biosciences and financial sectors. His experience encompasses planning, finance and strategy development, supply chain, and operations. Most recently, Mr. Elster was director of operations and supply chain at Clinical Micro Sensors (CMS), a Motorola Company. There, Mr. Elster successfully prepared operations for the company’s first commercial launch, including FDA approval of the GMP manufacturing facility. He led the quality control function, the manufacturing team, and operational strategy development. His team was also responsible for materials and inventory management, as well as distribution and warehousing.
For over 13 years at Baxter, Mr. Elster’s management work was focused directly on plasma products worldwide. His roles included manager of strategic planning, business development, finance and strategy for the hyperimmune business unit, and director of global supply chain. Mr. Elster began his career at Deloitte and Touche as a financial statement auditor, and is a current board member and past chairman of the board for Monrovia Growers.
Mr. Elster received his Bachelor of Science from California State University, Northridge, and his Master of Business from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.

Elena Medo
Founder and Chief Strategic Officer
Ms. Medo founded Prolacta Bioscience in 2000 to develop “NICU quality” processed human milk for critically ill and preterm babies. Since 1985, she has worked closely with scores of neonatal intensive care units to help new mothers overcome lactation failure by providing a line of electric breast pumps designed to better stimulate production of breast milk. She previously founded White River Concepts, a medical device company that has provided breast pumps and collection kits to thousands of mothers with hospitalized babies. She has been granted several domestic and foreign patents covering improved methods for increasing breast milk production and for expressing human milk and for a hospital breast pump system that turns hospital “wall suction” into an effective breast pump system.
In 2001-2002, Ms. Medo secured initial funding for Prolacta Bioscience to conduct viral inactivation studies that remain at the core of the Company’s safety profile. She secured additional funding in 2004 to build the world’s first professional processing facility designed specifically for human milk. It was completed in August 2005.
Ms. Medo attended the University of California at Irvine as an undergraduate, majoring in developmental and cell biology before receiving her BA from the Union Institute. She received an MBA with an emphasis on health care management from the Paul Merage School of Business at University of California at Irvine.

Nathen Fox, CPA/MBA
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Fox is an operations-oriented CFO/CPA with over 21 years of experience in more than six startups, taking several of them from inception through revenues and profitability. Prior to joining Prolacta, Mr. Fox was senior director/CFO of The Nanotech Company and CFO of Gematria Products, Inc.
After graduating from business school, Mr. Fox worked in Japan for IMAGICA Corporation (Asia’s largest post-production company) where he was general manager of three business units. Prior to business school, Mr. Fox was CFO for Porsche Design and a CPA at Barkin, Perren & Elam. Mr. Fox is conversant in Japanese and holds an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA with an undergraduate degree in business economics from UCLA.

David J Rechtman MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Rechtman received his MD from State University of New York - Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1980. Following a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases he served on the faculty of SUNY-Health Science Center at Brooklyn while helping to establish and lead the multi-disciplinary AIDS care team at the affiliated Kings County Hospital.
Upon deciding to pursue a career in industry, Dr. Rechtman was employed at Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Hyland Division where he was responsible for product safety for the entire product line and for immunological and infectious diseases product for medical affairs. While at Hyland, he was instrumental in popularizing a highly effective therapy for a serious complication of bone marrow transplantation, as well as helping achieve new indications for existing products.
Subsequently, Dr. Rechtman spent several years as Medical Director for Ribi Immunochem Research Inc. where he was the Medical Officer for the first phase III trial of a commercial therapeutic cancer vaccine, which was targeted against malignant melanoma. That product was subsequently successfully licensed in Canada. He also directed the team developing a product for the prevention of sepsis in high- risk patients.
For the better part of a decade, Dr. Rechtman provided consulting services to various pharmaceutical and biotech companies. These activities subsequently developed into a successful contract research organization that designed and ran clinical trials in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Rechtman has been an invited speaker at professional gatherings in the U.S. and Europe, has published original research and written chapters for several textbooks, and has given guest lectures to undergraduate and graduate university students in the areas of infectious and immunological diseases and therapies and their development.

Martin L. Lee PhD
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Lee is responsible for all research and development activities as well as the regulatory compliance function.
He is also Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Health at UCLA and Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine, Charles R. Drew University of Science and Medicine. Dr. Lee is the author or coauthor of over 200 scientific papers, he is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and member of the American Statistical Association, the Society for Clinical Trials, the Biometrics Society, and the international Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis.
Dr. Lee received a B.A. (1974) degree in mathematics (summa cum laude), M.S. (1975) and, Ph.D. (1979) degrees in biostatistics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has worked for more than 25 years in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries as head of clinical and regulatory functions for these organizations.

Ellen N. Cushing
VP, Sales & Marketing
Ms. Cushing is a seasoned medical industry executive, with over two decades of experience directing global marketing organizations in the medical device and health care IT industry. Her experience is extensive, and includes a leadership position for the perinatal business unit at Draeger Medical. As vice president of product management she managed international marketing efforts focused on global innovation and product life cycle management processes.
Prior to Draeger Medical, Ms. Cushing’s previous positions included roles at Washington-based Spacelabs Medical, where she led global business management, team development, project management, as well as U.S. channel sales and marketing. At Spacelabs, Ms. Cushing held the roles of engineering manager, sales manager, director of their perinatal business unit, and marketing manager for neonatal/pediatric products. Additionally, her clinical experience encompasses over six years of nursing management positions in numerous hospital departments including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Ms. Cushing holds a Bachelors of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi, and attended graduate studies for physics at California State University in Northridge.

Joseph Fournell
VP, Operations
Mr. Fournell has over a decade of experience in the field of operations and supply chain management in the high-tech and bioscience sectors. Throughout his career, his experience included leadership roles in operations, manufacturing execution systems, forecasting, supply planning, process engineering, and logistics.
Most recently, Mr. Fournell served as director of global logistics for Baxter Bioscience. In this capacity, Mr. Fournell managed the transportation, warehousing, and distribution of over $3 billion of product globally. At Baxter Bioscience, he led strategy planning sessions for operations, regulatory, and human resources. In his prior role at Baxter Bioscience, he became the first certified Six Sigma Black Belt in the United States, working on process improvements in the manufacturing and supply chain arena.
Mr. Fournell received his BS in Industrial Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with an emphasis on process engineering. He also received a MS in Industrial Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a focus on factory automation, funded from a grant through NASA-AMES and Raytheon.

Scott Eaker
VP, Quality
Mr. Eaker is responsible for quality management and laboratory operations for Prolacta Bioscience. He has over a decade of experience in quality and laboratory management in the bioscience sector. Mr. Eaker began his career in the microbiology laboratory at Baxter Healthcare’s first recombinant Factor VIII manufacturing facility. He supported the start-up of the bulk manufacturing and fill/finish operations, implemented numerous test protocols, led failure investigations, and rapidly became a supervisor of laboratory operations.
Mr. Eaker also held a role serving as the subject matter expert in the areas of microbiology and aseptic processing for Baxter’s Bioscience Division. In this position he was responsible for developing and deploying standardized quality systems across multiple biologic and medical device manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Eaker has also been responsible for quality in the plasma fractionation area and ultimately served as director of quality technical support for the Bioscience division.
Mr. Eaker received a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of California at Davis.

John Bacich Jr.
Chairman of the Board
Mr. Bacich has been involved in the biopharmaceutical industry for 38 years. Most of that experience was with Baxter Healthcare beginning in 1968 and retiring in 1998. He held a variety of positions including quality management, research and development, global manufacturing operations, and general management leading to the presidency of what is now called the Bioscience Division of Baxter Healthcare.
In his capacity as president he was responsible for the plasma products worldwide and the development of the recombinant proteins business. He was also a charter board member of Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association which is the only industry association for plasma products producers and their recombinant equivalents.
Mr. Bacich remains active in the industry as a consultant and as a board member on various commercial firms. He is also a director of the Southern California Hemophilia Society. He attended the University of Southern California and holds a BS degree in Microbiology from California State University at Long Beach.

Frank H. Foster
Chairman Emeritus
Mr. Foster is the Managing Director of the Gideon Hixon Fund, the venture capital investment vehicle for the Hixon Family and a venture partner of Draper Fisher Jurvetson Frontier. The Gideon Hixon Fund and its predecessor entities (HixVen and Southwest Venture Partnerships) have a long history in venture capital beginning in the 1970s. The group's venture capital investments include Apple Computer (NASDAQ & NYSE: AAPL) and Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) as well as more recent successes including CORSolutions (acquired by Matria), Medior (acquired by AOL), Security Dynamics (acquired by RSA), WebCal (acquired by Yahoo) and Xiotech (acquired by Seagate). Prior to that, he was a General Partner of Allen & Buckeridge PTY LTD, a leading Australian venture capital firm with approximately A$250 million under management. At Allen & Buckeridge he led investment efforts into Hitwise, eKit, Wishlist and Next Generation Entertainment.
Mr. Foster also has extensive operational experience through his roles at Virtual Music Entertainment (sold to NAMCO), Contexture Systems and Prophecy Development Corporation. Recently, he acted as an independent director and consultant to YellowPages.com where he helped guide the company through its successful sale to SBC Communications (NYSE: SBC) and Bell South (NYSE: BLS) in November 2004. He was also a director of Cogent Data technologies through its successful sale to Adaptec Inc (NASDAQ: ADPT) in June 1996. Mr. Foster is currently a member of the board of directors for Prolacta Bioscience, eKit.com, Hixon Properties Incorporated, and Our Happy Child Productions. He received his MBA from The Harvard Business School and a BA cum laude from Harvard University.

David Cremin
Board Member
David Cremin, is a founder and Managing Director of DFJ Frontier, a Draper Fisher Jurvetson affiliate and venture capital fund focused on seed and early stage technology companies in California . At Frontier, he leads fund management, fundraising and port- folio management efforts. Mr. Cremin has significant entrepreneurial and venture capital experience. He was a founding partner of Zone Ventures in Los Angeles. Before Zone Ventures, he served as Founder and CEO of Vis-à-Vis Entertainment, a music publishing and digital media company.
Mr. Cremin worked for a short period in strategic planning at Citicorp Credit Services. He also spent several years touring as a professional musician and recording artist for RCA Records, Atlantic Records, Elektra Records and EastWest Records. Mr. Cremin is currently a board director of OnTech, ProLacta Bioscience, Digital Campaigns, MusicSystems and The BizWorld Foundation. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.

Alison de Bord

Ms. de Bord joined Alta Partners in 2001 to focus on later stage life sciences investments. She serves on the board of directors for Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Insulet Corporation, Prolacta Bioscience, Sierra Surgical Technologies and SurgRx.
Prior to Alta Partners, Ms. de Bord was a Senior Associate in Robertson Stephens' Life Sciences Investment Banking Group with primary responsibilities for the execution of corporate finance transactions including IPOs, follow-on equity and convertible preferred offerings. Previously, she was an Associate in Robertson Stephens' Equity Research Group where she focused on growth medical technology companies. She began her career in the business development group at Geron, a biotechnology company.
Ms. de Bord earned a master of business administration from Columbia Business School and a bachelor of arts in history from Colgate University.

Tiffany Humphreys Foster

Ms. Foster joined Prolacta's board in September 2005 and brings relevant experience in operations, strategic planning, and entrepreneurial finance. She is also a strong advocate for breast feeding and children's health issues.
Ms. Foster began her business career working for The L/E/K Partnership, a strategy consulting firm, doing business unit profitability, new product introduction and expansion strategies for large multinational companies. After graduating from Harvard Business School she worked for Reebok International as manager of strategic planning, assisting with strategic direction, positioning and branding, followed by a role as business unit manager of Reebok's Women's Sports and fitness division.
Ms. Foster's more recent focus has been working as an investor/manager of early stage ventures. In 1996 she founded AFC Sportz, Inc., a network of cycling training centers which she ran for 4 years. She then worked as the Director of international expansion for BT LookSmart, a JV between LookSmart and British Telecom, to start an internet search and directory company which expanded into eight countries across Europe and Asia. Currently, Ms. Foster is a private investor overseeing a portfolio of six investments.
Ms. Foster serves on the Board of the Storyteller Children's Center, a pre-school and daycare center that serves homeless children in Santa Barbara and is actively involved in fundraising for this organization, her childrens' schools and other local non profits. Ms. Foster holds a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honors (majoring in organic chemistry) from the University of Sydney and a master of business administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School.

Stephen H. Watkins

Stephen Watkins is a founding partner of Arcturus Capital, an early stage venture capital firm focused on Southern California companies. Mr. Watkins is currently a board member for Ondax, Inc. and Prolacta Biosciences, and a board observer at SupplyFrame.
Prior to working in the venture capital industry, Mr. Watkins worked for Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts in the launch of their first commercial product, Agenerase™, for patients with HIV infection. Before Vertex, Mr. Watkins worked for Amgen Inc., the nation's largest biotechnology company, in a variety of capacities in the sales & marketing and executive departments. Mr. Watkins earned an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA and received his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley.
