What made you want to become a breastmilk donor?
My middle son was in the hospital for a month with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). During our stay, the nurses expressed the need for breastmilk for preemie babies. I was pregnant at the time, so I told them I would try and donate.
Why did you choose to donate to Helping Hands Milk Bank?
I did research and Helping Hands Milk Bank was the most user-friendly with the application process. Helping Hands Milk Bank was efficient and quick.
Do you have experiences with a premature little one or the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)?
No, all three of my babies were full-term.
What does it mean to you that your milk donations support Susan G. Komen® research?
This means a lot because it’s another way to give back. I am not in a position to be able to donate funds to such an amazing organization. I love that I am able to participate in some way.
Have you or a loved one been touched by breast cancer?
My best friend’s mom had and beat breast cancer. However, the process was brutal and heartbreaking.
Do you have a special connection to Susan G. Komen research?
We need a cure! We all have someone that has had to deal with breast cancer.
What is the most rewarding part about donating for you?
This is a very unique way to give back to a very specific population. Preemies and NICU babies are very vulnerable. It’s an honor to be able to be a part of their journey.
